Katie is a speculative fiction writer and (separately) a children’s book editor. She has always been fascinated by how unique settings and situations affect the characters that inhabit them, and her stories examine what it means to be human even in the most unfamiliar and extraordinary moments. Her short fiction has appeared in Fractured Lit and MetaStellar, and her nonfiction has appeared in Bird Talk Magazine and on BirdChannel.com.
Katie graduated from the University of Maryland with dual degrees in English Language & Literature and Romance Languages, and from Johns Hopkins University with a Master of Arts in Writing. Originally from Western New York (go Bills), she’s now lived most of her life in the Washington, DC, suburbs of Maryland. She lives with three parrots, two geckos, a collie, and too much cheese in the refrigerator.
Her last name is two words; it’s Dutch, like van Gogh.
